Ogham poem: Edad/Amanita

See, see, discern the tree
that flowers in your crown and roots in your head
the dose is the poison, you said

Can you distinguish leaf
from trunk from the forest unfolding? The trout
red-speckled before you, now,

under the shadow
feeding the root of the plant of harm, brother
of birch, salmon-daughter

open the chamber to
the mushroom, oh friend. It is so tricky, true —
the quivering aspen, the yew —

It makes us into swans!
What is the synonym for friend? Those who fall
together like trees, call

“Timber!” or simply “See.”
The pieces of perception knit together —
or not — under the water

we should have drunk instead
of whatever concoction the mushroom gives.
See: what dies and what lives!

See, see, discern the tree
that reaches the heavens and down to the dead
the dose is the poison, you said.
